Day 3 - A Song That Makes You Happy

So not quite Day 3, after travelling it has taken me a little while to find the time!

Now this was a song that I had obviously heard before but it hadn't really made such an impact as it has recently.

when we lived in Wales a popular TV series began called Gavin and Stacey. Fantastic series, very funny!!! When we then moved to Saudi it was in it's final series, so we managed to watch it on download. Eased the homesickness! Bryn and Nessa did a cover of this song, so perfectly executed and hilarious!!!

I hadn't thought much more about this song until a few months ago. We introduced the series to Erika. not in reality we didn't think she would get it. It is very British - moreso the cultural divide between England and Wales! But she did get it and we spent night after night falling about in laughter watching it (with the odd translation for Erika!!)

This time round the Nessa and Bryn song had a totally different impact on us, absolute hilarity!! And ever since these marvellous evenings spent with Erika I smile with a thousand memories at the sound of this song! This song will always make me smile, will always remind me of Erika and the time we spent together in Saudi and always remind me of friendship and the fun times had and the fun times to be had!

I would, if I could, choose the Nessa and Bryn version but there doesn't seem to be a full version so I have chosen the original.

the song - Islands In The Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

Baby when I met you
there was peace unknown
I set out to get you
with a fine tooth comb
I was soft inside
there was somethin' going on

You do something to me
that I can't explain
Hold me closer and I feel no pain
Every beat of my heart
We got somethin' goin on

Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation
We ride it together, ah-ah
Makin' love with each other, ah-ah

(chorus)
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in between
How can we be wrong?
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah

I can't live without you
if the love was gone
Everything is nothin'
if you got no one
And you did walk in tonight
slowly losing sight of the real thing

But that wont happen to us
and we got no doubt
Too deep in love and
we got no way out
and the message is clear
This could be the year
for the real thing

No more will you cry
Baby I will hurt you never
We start and end as one
in love forever
We can ride it together, ah-ah
Makin' love with each other, ah-ah

(chorus)

Sail away
Oh come sail away with me, with me

(chorus)

(repeat to fade)

Day 2 - Your Least Favourite Song!

Well this song is beyond my least favourite - I absolutely HATE it!!!! This song makes me uncomfortable, sickly and cringe! It conjures up images of a fat, sweaty, drunk and smelly pervy man sat in a council bedsit perving! YUK YUK YUK!!!!!!

Unfortunately my husband loves it and thinks it’s so funny!!???!!

The words are horrid, the theme is gross and it just isn't funny. Now I will quite happily listen to crude songs, funny crude songs, but it is as if this one just goes too far and I could quite happily never listen to this song again for the rest of my life!

In fact I detest this song so much I can't bring myself to grace it's presence with too many of my words!

The song – Sweaty Betty by the Macc Lads.

She wore big knickers and she worked at the sewage farm.
Got my hands down her jeans and I nearly lost half my arm.
But after ten pints, she looked quite fit,
Couldn’t wait to get my hands on her flabby tits.
So I said, Slap that and ride the ripples,
I just got to get my gob round her greasy nipples.
Flabby arse, sweaty breasts, thirty eight chins,
she was a mound of flesh.
Sweaty Betty, she eats a lot of pies,
Sweaty Betty, she’s got enormous thighs,
Sweaty Betty, have you smelled her breath?
Sweaty Betty, she’d crush a man to death.
I knew that she wanted me to shag her,
so I stabbed her cunt with my mutton dagger.
I couldn’t believe the size of her bum,
She used to play for Wigan at the back of the scrum.
I’ve seen nowt like it since the day I was born,
But you know me, I’ll shag owt that’s warm.
Sweaty Betty, she eats a lot of chips,
Sweaty Betty, she’s got massive tits,
Sweaty Betty, she’s got a huge vagina,
Sweaty Betty, you’d fit a bus inside her,
She’s so obscene, three tons of margarine,
She’s like a lump of lard
But Sweaty Betty makes my willy hard.

Day 1 - Your Favourite Song

So here goes with Day 1!

Your favourite song:

Now this is a hard one, what makes your favourite song? I have a few if I'm honest. And when I look at the questions for the rest of the 30 day challenge I realise there would be a cross over as there are many reasons for my favourite songs. (and I am determined not to repeat any of the songs)

For my favourite song, there are a few factors involved. I love the artist, one of the few who have won a UK singing contest who was a real star. The voice is wonderful, even if you don't enjoy recent chart music and 'ballady' female singers it cannot be denied that this girl can sing! And most importantly with this one it is the words!

I remember watching the video to this, sat in our house in Wales and I cried buckets. I watched it over and over again! It was the Africa Trip version. One of the most moving music videos I have ever watched.

It may seem a bit dramatic but that night changed me. I had always had a dream of travelling and always had a dream of doing volunteer work abroad. So I planned for a trip to Mombasa, just 2 weeks, to work in an AIDS orphanage. I had planned to do it September 2009. But then we all decided to start travelling, see the world. We were miserable in our lives at the time, our jobs, lack of money, and lack of passion. So we decided to start travelling and when the children are a little older we plan to go to Africa as a family.

Recently I listened to this song again, and it took on another dimension. The words. We are about to leave Saudi, but more importantly we are about to leave some really special friends. One in particular. Whilst listening to this song I listened to the words again and I realised that actually those words were pretty much what she has said and done for me. Things have been tough for me recently and she was one person who was truly there. And I have attached a wonderful memory to this song, knowing that she carried me when I needed a friend, and I know I will always find her footprints in the sand somewhere, I just hope when she needs it, she will look for my foot prints in the sand too.

The song is Leona Lewis - Footprints in the Sand.

You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I'm going

You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much unknown
Along the way

Then I heard you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
And I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

I see my life
Flash across the sky
So many times I've lied
And been so afraid

And just when I
I thought I'd lost my way
You gave me strength to carry on

That's when I heard you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
Oh, I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand
When I'm weary
Well I know you'll be there
And I can feel you
When you say

I promise you
I'm always there
When your heart is full of sadness and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

When your life is full of sadness and despair
I'll carry you
When you need a friend
I promise you
I'm always there
When you need a friend
You'll find my footprints in the sand

The Rules

So I have seen a lot of people doing this and have been wanting to do it for a while, but I think it should take a lot of thought as some of the songs to be chosen would undoubtedly evoke a deep level of emotion!

Music is one of the most powerful things on the planet. It has the ability to move you physically and emotionally and every form of music will be appreciated by someone. Just like with writing, there are no wasted words, they are all valued by someone, somewhere and every melody is loved by someone, somewhere!
I will listen to the song in question as I write about it, hopefully giving me a true sense of my feelings about it!
